Preparing for labor can quickly start to feel overwhelming. You can read all the books and surf all the blogs, but there is no way to know exactly what your birth will look like. About PDX Doulas
PDX Doulas is a non-profit organization that was started by a small group of volunteer doulas. Since the very beginning, this group has been dedicated to ensuring parents everywhere have access to the support they need. The group has recently merged with the Gateway Doula Group to ensure they are able to reach more parents. Through it all, their mission has remained the same: to improve birth outcomes for parents throughout the community. No matter what your birth preferences are, this group is here to support you!
Services
The group, through PDX Doulas, understands that different parents need different things. They tailor their services to your specific situation so you can have assistance that actually works for you. To receive care, you will start out by submitting a form. You will let them know when you want your doula to start, your estimated due date, your birth location, and your insurance. They let you fill out a culture-specific request so you can be paired with someone who understands your experience. In the weeks leading up to your due date, your doula will work with you to create your birth plan.
While they can provide you with advice and information, their care will be unbiased. They will help you make the decisions that are right for you. Once you enter into labor, your doula is going to be right by your side. They will be the fiercest advocate in the room, making sure your birth plan is honored as much as possible. Once your baby is born, they will give you tips and pointers and guide you through the initial feedings. You will be able to enter into labor feeling confident with your doula by your side!
Specialty
The group at PDX Doulas has partnered with Unity Doula Village to provide culturally specific doulas. This is a center dedicated to improving the outcomes for Black pregnant people across the Portland area. The Afrocentric doulas know how to prioritize your voice so you can have your best outcome.
