If you’re reading this, you’re probably somewhere between picking out baby names and folding the tiniest onesies you’ve ever seen. And somewhere along the way, you might’ve started wondering, “When should I actually book my newborn photos?”
Let me make it super simple for you.
The best time to book your newborn session is during your second trimester. I know that might sound early, especially when you’re still getting used to the idea that you’re growing a whole human but booking early makes everything smoother later on.
You’ll be past those early pregnancy symptoms, feeling a bit more settled, and it’ll give us plenty of time to chat and plan without any last-minute stress.
Honestly? It’s all about availability. I only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month so I can give every family the time and care they deserve. Once my calendar fills up, that’s it. So, when you book early, you’re securing your spot and avoiding any scramble later.
If there’s one thing every new parent learns fast, it’s that babies come when they’re ready, not always when expected. That’s totally okay! When you book a newborn session during your second trimester, we’ll schedule your session for about two weeks after your due date. Then, once baby arrives, we’ll confirm the exact day based on how you’re all doing.
When you fill out my contact form, we’ll set up a quick call or email exchange to chat about what you’re hoping for. Once you feel ready, I’ll send over a booking proposal. That includes everything you need to make it official: a session agreement, a retainer, and your due date reserved on my calendar.
A few weeks before your Portland newborn session, I’ll send you a full prep guide with everything you need to know: what to bring, how to prepare baby, how to keep things relaxed. No guesswork, no stress.
Feeling unsure about what to wear? You’re not alone. That’s why I put together a personalized style board for every session. And if you want, you can borrow something from my client wardrobe, over 60 beautiful, size-inclusive dresses just waiting for you. I want every mama to feel comfortable and confident.
You’d have just had a baby. You’ll be running on very little sleep. So, on session day, you can choose to have hair and makeup done by one of the amazing artists I work with. It’s a little extra self-care that makes a big difference and helps you feel like you again.
Newborn sessions take place in my cozy home studio in SE Portland. It’s relaxed, quiet, and set up for comfort. We take things entirely at baby’s pace, so newborn sessions usually run between 2 and 4 hours. If you’ve got older kids joining us, plan on the full 4 hours. There’s a nearby park where they can run around once we’re done with their part!
About three weeks after your session, we’ll schedule your online gallery reveal. You’ll get to view your newborn portraits from home and choose your favorites. Digital images are delivered within 24 hours of your order, and any printed artwork gets personally delivered by me in about 6-8 weeks.
Booking your newborn session in the second trimester might feel early, but it’s honestly one of the smartest things you can do. It takes one big thing off your plate and ensures everything’s ready when your baby arrives. No scrambling, no last-minute stress, just a calm, prepared plan to capture this special time.
