Family studio newborn photography sessions are always so much fun. One of the things I love about being a family, maternity and newborn photographer is getting to document older siblings as they prepare to meet their new siblings. Hanging out with them at the maternity session before baby arrives and then getting to see them again with their newest family member at the newborn session is so exciting for me. Each older sibling handles their promotion differently, so it’s always interesting to see how it will play out. Sometimes we just need some fruit snacks to encourage littles into the photo or maybe hide a favorite toy in the swaddle. Whatever needs to happen, do not worry. I’ve worked with many older siblings and I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve to ensure we get the photos we need. I am honored to get the opportunity to document this time for families.
I recently stumbled upon this book list about how to talk to your bigger kids about their new role as older sibling. I just love the idea of helping them understand how their life is about to change through the power of books. Check it out and let me know if you’ve read any of these to your kids.
This older sibling did an amazing job during her brothers family studio newborn photography session at my studio in Portland Oregon. Let me know which photo is your favorite of big sis and little bro!
