Keeping Your Family Safe at your Newborn Session

Portland Oregon Newborn Photography

Your baby is the most precious thing in the world. I take the health and safety of you and your family very seriously. Today on the blog, let’s chat about keeping your family safe at your newborn session.

For starters, I am trained and certified in newborn photography safety through the Accredited Professional Newborn Photographers International (APNPI). I am also CPR certified, having completed a baby CPR course in addition to adult CPR.

I don’t do any complicated posing that could put your baby at risk. Instead, I like to focus on organic, natural images of babies in positions you might expect to find them in. This reduces possible risk of injury to your precious newborn.

I always welcome you to watch me as I photograph your baby. If needed I will ask you to spot your baby. You can choose to be close at hand. Some parents prefer a little break or rest on the comfy couch just outside the studio room. Do what’s right for you, and you can always change your mind! All of my newborn photography sessions take place in my home studio which I thoroughly clean and sanitize before and after every single session.

Keeping your family safe at your newborn session is very important to me, so I want to highlight my sanitary practices.

  1. Directly before every session I do a thorough hand washing with soap and water. I will repeat this if needed throughout the session. I also have hand sanitizer within reach that I use often throughout newborn sessions. You are also welcome to use the sanitizer as often as you would like.
  2. My studio space is cleaned regularly. All surfaces are wiped down with disinfectant after each session. Any surface that comes into contact with a client is thoroughly washed and/or sanitized. Fabrics and outfits are washed after every session.
  3. Two air purifiers run in my home for at least an hour prior to your session – as well as during your session. One runs in the studio space itself and the other runs in the living room area where you are welcome to hang out while your baby is being photographed.
  4. I continue to wear a KN95 mask during all indoor sessions and ask all of my clients to wear a mask while in my home when they are not in front of the camera.

I also regularly remind all clients to please reschedule if you or any members of your family are sick, feeling unwell and/or have a fever. Individuals should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aid of medications such as Tylenol or Advil.

Rescheduling

If illness is an issue we will reschedule your newborn session. I know I’ve encouraged you to schedule your newborn session when your baby is between 5-15 days old but  we can create beautiful images at any age. It is much more important that you, your family, and mine stay healthy.

If myself, or anyone in my family gets sick, I will reach out to you as soon as possible to discuss rescheduling your session. Continue taking care of you and yours, and rest assured knowing I am doing the same.
